GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Billing Specialist is responsible for medical coding, billing, accounts receivable, demographic entry, ICD-10/CPT coding, charge entry and receipt posting.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- ICD-10 diagnosis and CPT Coding of pathology reports.
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from accredited program REQUIRED if coding. We will also accept CPC or other coding certificate with proper hospital and professional side coding experience.
- Handle a high volume of incoming customer service calls in a call-center type environment.
- Insurance eligibility and benefit verification.
- Demographic data entry.
- Post charges.
- Reconcile claims/accounts to complete resolution.
- Payment posting from both insurance and patient.
- Accounts receivable/follow-up.
- Monitor assigned accounts to ensure maximization of collection dollars.
- Meets or exceeds key performance indicators measuring productivity, quality, and service level as defined by management.
- Actively participates in team initiatives and in team status meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge with CMS 1500 Billing Forms, EOBs, claims, coding and charges is required.
- Experience working with all types of insurance- Commercial, HMO, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.
- Ability to read and understand the information provided on EOB’s, remittance advices, and other insurance correspondence.
- Skilled Nursing Facility experience required.
- Knowledge of Advanced MD billing software is a plus.
- Ability to work as a group and independently with little supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 2 or more years of healthcare related experience in billing and collections.
- ICD-9/10 and CPT coding knowledge.
- Must type 50 words or more per minute.
- Must have a positive demeanor and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Skills/Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Minimum 1 year working in pathology, with emphasis on insurance and eligibility
- Experience with Microsoft Outlook and Excel
- Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to multi-task
- Ability to use discretion while working with sensitive information
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Experience with Advanced MD software preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 – $24.00 per hour
