We are a healthcare organization committed to delivering exceptional patient care. We’re currently seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Coding Specialist to join our team. This role is vital in ensuring accurate billing and adherence to industry standards.

Role Overview

As a Medical Coding Specialist, you’ll play a crucial role in accurately translating provider services into billable codes from medical documentation. Your work will adhere to the highest coding ethics set forth by respected organizations such as AAPC, AHIMA, and NAMAS, as well as payer coverage guidelines.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Accurately abstract provider services into billable codes (CPT, HCPCS, & ICD-10) from medical documentation, ensuring compliance with coding ethics and payer guidelines.

Post and reconcile hospital charges on a daily basis, maintaining precision and timeliness.

Collaborate with coding supervisor to address inefficiencies, including medical necessity of services, incomplete documentation, and coding discrepancies.

Utilize coding and payer resources effectively to ensure accurate coding and billing.

Provide assistance to the Accounts Receivable (AR) Specialist in resolving coding denials, including drafting appeal letters and providing necessary documentation.

Additional Responsibilities

Commit to ongoing education in coding and billing practices through provided resources.

Undertake any other duties as assigned, contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the team.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated experience in accurately coding medical services, following AAPC, AHIMA, and NAMAS coding ethics.

Proficient in English communication, both verbal and written; additional languages are advantageous.

Exceptional customer service skills and phone etiquette.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and work efficiently within productivity standards.

Strong organizational skills, with the capability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Proactive problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work independently.

Strong teamwork spirit and a willingness to support colleagues.

Credentials/Education/Experience

High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and/or coding.

Certifications in Medical Billing and Coding highly desirable.
