Outpatient Medical Coder / HIM Coder – Remote | WFH

We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled individual to join our team as an Outpatient Rehab Therapy and Wound Care Coder. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring accurate coding of outpatient therapy and wound care services according to ICD-10-CM and CPT guidelines. Your responsibilities will include thorough review and coding of medical records, clear communication with medical staff, and continuous evaluation of clinical documentation for coding accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Outpatient Rehab Therapy and Wound Care Services:

Code all outpatient therapy and wound care records within three days of admission with 95% accuracy, covering Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Wound Care services.

  • Record Management:

Collaborate with medical staff to resolve coding discrepancies and ensure accurate documentation.

Monitor clinical documentation quality and address incomplete or inconsistent records.

Utilize coding software and encoder applications for precise coding and claims processing.

Perform necessary actions to facilitate billing system integration and promptly report any issues to the Director.

Adhere to ethical coding standards and ensure accurate abstraction of physician and demographic information.

Understand and fulfill responsibilities in case of emergencies.

Position Qualifications

Education and Training:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred certification in coding or related field (e.g., CCS, CPC, RHIT).

Relevant coursework in medical terminology and anatomy/physiology beneficial.

Experience

Minimum of two years’ experience in coding preferred.

Proficiency in ICD-10-CM/CPT coding and familiarity with medical terminology.

Strong Data Entry And Computer Skills Required.

Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders and maintain confidentiality.

Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and healthcare standards.

Knowledge of TJC and state regulations regarding medical records preferred.

Skills And Abilities

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Ability to adapt to coding changes and stay updated on industry trends.

Proficient in numerical filing and computer operations.

Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
